The Faeries are Back!
AWAY WITH THE FAERIES WORKSHOPS JANUARY 16TH
AWAY WITH THE FAERIES IS FINALLY BEGINNING!
The Away with the Faeries Workshops are a new departure in Creative Writing Workhops for me- focussing on the telling, the re-telling, the de-coding and the writing of your own personal Faery Tales. I am very excited about Away with the Faeries, because it encompasses much of what I have been teaching through the Hero's Journey (the narrative pattern is there in a condensed version in faery tales) and the Heroine's Journey (the obvious similarity being the protagonist and the perils she faces). We explore the archetypes of dark forest, the innocent heroine, the mirror, the poisoned apple, the prince-hero, the dynamic damsel, the wolf, the evil stepmother, the happily ever after…
Faery Tales often feature characters overcoming great odds, which inspire readers and listeners- both children and adults- to find strength and courage in their own lives. The symbolic nature of fairytales allows individuals to explore complex emotions and situations in a safe and imaginative way.
We will also explore the work of Marie Von Franz, Karl Gustav Jung, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Sharon Blackie, J.R.R. Tolkien, Maureen Murdock, Joseph Campbell, the Grimm Brothers, Hans Christian Andersen, James Stephens, Perault, Giambatista Basile, Leigh Burdugo and others, putting the Faery Tale in a particular historical and psychological framework.
